The Beauty and Glamour of Spring…Creating glamorous images

I ventured to the north central Texas town of Athens to spend the weekend diving at the scuba park there. Along the way our journey was filled with the sights of a Texas wildflower filled spring. This is one of the images photographed along the way.  I really love shooting with my Canon 200mm f2 L lens.  It is, admititly, a beast…big and very heavy.  The results, however, can be stunning when used to maximize the lens' unique characteristics.

The design that makes this lens so big, is also what creates an incredibly short depth of field (the area that is is focus) which brings the viewer's attention right in on the subject.  Notice how soft and beautiful the flowers and grass are around the central subject.  This look is created by the lens and was not further stylized during post-processing (formally called printing, as if in the darkroom).

When shooting glamour/boudoir/senior or a wedding, it is also a useful tool to have to create this specialized look. Click here to see an example of how this lens was used in a portrait session.
